The Cesanese "Matidia" from Casale del Giglio is a red wine produced in the area of the agro pontino with the homonymous native Lazio grape variety. This is an area that has a recent history, starting only in the post-war period, following the definitive reclamation of the early decades of the '900.

The suitable soils and the mild climate allow for excellent ripening of the grapes with rich aromas, expressing a pleasant fragrance of ripe red fruit. The wine is named after an important Roman noblewoman of the Antonine dynasty, niece of Emperor Trajan, who obtained the title of Augusta and the dedication of a temple in Campo Marzio in Rome.

The wine "Matidia" is a pure Cesanese produced by a young and innovative winery, which has established itself as one of the most interesting realities of the Lazio territory. Casale del Giglio was born from the desire to enhance a still virgin territory like that of the pontine coastline, to make it an example of excellence. The Cesanese grapes come from a historic vineyard of the estate, which has more than 30 years and is located in the area of Olevano Romano. The vines are cultivated at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level, on particularly valuable soil, composed of volcanic soils and veins of limestone. At the end of the harvest, which usually takes place in the second half of October, the clusters undergo a cold prefermentative maceration for 6/7 days at 8° C, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Before being bottled, the wine matures for a period of 12 months, partly in steel tanks and partly in tonneau.

The red Cesanese "Matidia", produced by the Lazio winery Casale del Giglio, is a wine with a typically territorial face, highlighting the undeniable qualities of this interesting Lazio grape variety. Visually, it presents itself with an intense and bright ruby red color. The olfactory profile is elegant and fine, characterized by aromas of red fruit, marasca, small dark berry fruits, and slight spicy sensations. Harmonious and balanced, on the palate it is medium-bodied, with a tannic texture thin and soft, fruity aromas, which anticipate a pleasantly fresh finish with good taste persistence. It is a red that is already ready, but with a good aging potential. Ideal for pairing with first courses with savory meat or game sauces.
