“Abbazia di Rosazzo” by Livio Felluga is a prestigious label from the range of this historic Friulian winery. It originates from a place that has been linked to viticulture for centuries, representing an important piece of the wine history of the area. The vineyards of the Abbey have always been famous for their production of top-quality grapes and Livio Felluga has always been fascinated by the possibility of taking care of this heritage of old vines, to create a great white wine. The desire came true in 2009 with a label that soon became a symbol of excellence. According to the oldest traditions of the area, it is produced with a blend of white grape varieties, creating a particularly harmonious and complex aromatic profile.
The white wine “Abbazia di Rosazzo” is an iconic wine of Friuli, a historical memory of a land and its culture. Livio Felluga fell in love with the Rosazzo area back in the '50s, with the project of restoring one of the most important places of the history of Friulian wine. The wine is produced with grapes of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Malvasia, and Ribolla Gialla, coming from the vineyards cultivated near the historic Abbey. The climate is mild and the soils are made up of limestone marls and Eocene sandstones, known in Friulian as ponca. At the end of the manual harvest, which takes place with several passes in the vineyard, in order to follow the ripening times of the different varieties, soft pressing of the bunches is carried out to extract the must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. The wine matures in oak barrels for about 8-10 months, also undergoing malolactic fermentation and completes aging in the bottle.
